Invisible Publishing and the Sarah Selecky Writing School have partnered with York University’s Book Publishing Practicum students to produce new print and ebook editions of Volumes 2–7 of the Little Bird Stories anthologies. Previously published in digital PDF editions only, we’re thrilled to be able to introduce them to a wider audience.
What that means for you, dear Invisiblog reader: you might see some super-fun posts around these parts over the next couple of weeks. Students in the practicum have been diligently working to edit, design, print, and promote these anthologies, and the plan is to showcase some of their efforts in this space. Stay tuned, and follow along here and across various social media channels with the hashtag #LittleBird2022.
Interested in knowing more about this partnership? Here’s the lowdown: These anthologies collect the winners and runners up of the popular Little Bird Writing contest run by the Sarah Selecky Writing School. The Little Bird Writing Contest is an international contest for innovative, emerging short fiction writers; the winning stories are chosen by a celebrated author. Invisible has been publishing the anthologies in this series since 2018, and when publisher Leigh Nash was hired to teach York’s book publishing practicum (part of the Professional Writing program) for the 2021–22 academic year, she dreamed up this expanded partnership to provide students with a hands-on opportunity to apply what they have learned in the context of preparing, marketing, and publishing actual books. Win-win!
