Invisible Field Trip: Lacey Estates

To celebrate the upcoming release of Don’t Honk Twice: A Prince Edward County Anthology, Team Invisible is stepping out from behind our desks to see a few County sights.
Stop 1: Barrel and Library Tasting at Lacey Estates
If you make it past the potholes on Closson Road (an experience in and of themselves), you’ll find this family-run winery perched on a rise between the lavender farm and the Grange. Kimball Lacey has been making wine here since 2007, while his wife Liz runs the tasting bar.
We wrangled invitations to their barrel tasting and joined a small group in the production room to try some of the winery’s upcoming releases. Kimball siphoned samples from French oak barrels, which we paired with selections from the cheese plate of our dreams. We were also treated to some past vintages pulled from the library. Yum!
One of the highlights was the Mentor Chardonnay, named for winemaking rockstar Deborah Paskus, who Kimball used to work with. Notes of caramel, vanilla, lemon curd and citrus dazzle your tongue. Divine. We swirled, we sipped, we ate our weight in cheese. If you haven’t checked out Lacey Estates yet, go!

Lacey Estates will also be pouring wine at the upcoming book launch for Don’t Honk Twice, on Friday, June 14 from 6-9pm at Books & Company. Wine (and beer and food) will be available by donation, with proceeds going to the Prince Edward Learning Centre.
