The Progeria Connection

One of the characters in Brent van Staalduinen’s novel SAINTS, UNEXPECTED has progeria, a rare disease that drastically affects the body’s aging process. For another take on progeria (and a really cool writer’s career), check out this super-excellent episode of the Longform podcast, which features an interview with Robin Marantz Henig. She’s the author of nine books, and writes about science and medicine for The New York Times Magazine. The progeria mention happens around 27:42, but the whole episode is worth a listen. And Robin’s original article, “Racing with Sam” can be found at the New York Times website here.
