Hamilton Highlight No. 1

Hamilton’s very own Brent van Staalduinen, author of the forthcoming novel Saints, Unexpected, shares his favourite Hamilton-related books and authors. First on the list, to celebrate National Poetry Month, is Chris Pannell’s A Nervous City:

Chris’s poems reveal a creative intimacy in Hamilton’s streets that somehow moves effortlessly with its gritty, sooty heritage. He lent me a few of his words for my novel’s epigraph that sum up many Hamiltonians’ relationship with our city: “The city shakes so subtly, we sometimes mistake it for / the ghost of its ambition, the effect of our work / the force of our breath in the night.”
