You did it. You went ahead and judged a book by its cover. And you judged it awesome. After winning the public vote, Anna Quon’s Migration Songs won over a panel of judges and took the gold in Salty Ink’s 2009 Judge a Book by Its Cover Competition. And naturally, the blogosphere went wild with applause, or more specifically, the Quill and Quire and The Reader blogged about it, which is just as good. Thanks everybody!
The Atlantic Book Awards were announced last week and Migration Songs has been shortlisted for the Dartmouth Book Award! Sue Carter Flinn over at The Coast thought this year’s list was full of surprises.
In other, related news, The Torontoist thinks we’re cool. And we heartily agree.
Elsewhere in the blogosphere, the good reviews keep rolling in. Adam at Never Had to Fight used to sell printer ink to Stacey May Fowles and now he reviews her books. Check his blog for the whole story and a review of Fear of Fighting.
So what, you might wonder, are the Invisiblites doing when they aren’t making books? Reading and blogging, of course. Even the National Post knows that. Check out their article about the Keepin’ It Real Book Club (featuring Nic Boshart) and their Civilians Read project.
And over at the Afterword, Canada Also Reads is in full swing. Read Zoe Whittal’s defense of Fear of Fighting and don’t forget to vote!
Zoe Whittal’s advice regarding Fear of Fighting:
“Read it if you’ve ever had an irrational fear, dated someone with panic attacks or fallen in love for the wrong reasons. I’m sure most people even dimly self-aware fall into one of those three camps.”
And if you’d like to read it, why not read it for free? Don’t forget about our free ebook offer!
